this is honestly one of my favorite scenes from any reality show ever, it completely defies explanation or description and it’s impossible to convey just how fucking insane it is to someone without showing them the clip

So for context:

Nathan For You is a reality TV show created by Nathan Fielder that serves as a parody of shows like Undercover Boss or The Profit: essentially, Nathan, a “business graduate” with no credentials whatsoever, supposedly comes to draw lots of customers to struggling businesses with radical ideas. The people on the show are real people who believe Nathan is really there to give them business and are not aware that it’s meant to be a parody: some of his ideas include having a frozen yogurt shop sell poop-flavored ice cream and having a Santa impersonator do 50% off Santa pictures in the summer, and the funny part is watching him try to convince a person, completely straight-faced, to partake in his dumb ideas. (Some of his more famous concepts are “Dumb Starbucks” and this staged video that become viral overnight.) 

In this episode, Nathan was helping this gas station owner draw in new customers through a ridiculous rebate process, which included customers having to deposit their rebates on top of a mountain after a 12-hour scavenger hunt, lol. Seemingly out of nowhere the owner starts talking about… this, and Nathan admitted in an AMA that this was the hardest moment for him to stay in character and keep a straight face, simply because he was so dumbfounded. You can tell he’s being sincerely horrified when his voice starts getting louder!
